Requirement

"A functional root barrier is essential if root penetration is to be prevented for long. From a technical viewpoint, root barrier protection should be extended to the entire roof area, and not restricted to just those sections of the roof that have been planted. In the case of grasses with strong rhizome growth such as bamboos and Chinese reeds, further, structural measures and special care will have to be taken." FLL

PVC-P Root Protection Layer

Cold-Welding

  • Protects against rootpenetration on unsealed roofs.
  • Provides a watertight layer for roof garden projects and a reservoir in one.
  • "Root penetration protection can be enhanced by an additional root protection layer above the roof
    seal" FLL.

  • Ensure the 5cm overlap is clean and dry.

  • Apply the welding agent with a brush.

  • Press the joint with a silicon roller immediately after applying the agent

  • Coverage: about 40 cm3 per meter length.

  • Ensure the 2 cm overlap is clean and dry.
  • Allow the blowtorch to run hot.
  • Hold the welder so that the 2 cm wide nozzle heats the whole of the overlap area and especially the outer edge of the seal (the nozzle needs to run up to 3 cm beyond this edge).
  • Run a silicon roller along the seal area immediately after welding, using constant pressure.
